Community Offshore Wind’s C.A.R.E. program

Community Offshore Wind knows that access to affordable childcare is a critical part of the success of the renewable energy industry and continues to be an essential need category in every New York community.

In partnership with United Way of New York State, we are introducing the C.A.R.E. program (Childcare  Affordability and Resource Equity), which offers $10 million for childcare programs to support people working and training in offshore wind in the state.

Community Offshore Wind Supports New Jersey Fisheries and Combats Hunger by Donating Over 60,000 Seafood Meals

In an effort to support communities across New Jersey this summer, Community Offshore Wind partnered with 10 hunger relief organizations across the state to distribute more than 60,000 meals of fresh, locally-sourced seafood to families in need. We collaborated with New Jersey-based seafood processors to donate more than 5,800 pounds of fish and 50,000 servings of clam chowder, helping to alleviate food insecurity and ensure equitable access to healthy, fresh food.

Community Offshore Wind Donates Over 30,000 Holiday Meals of Locally Caught Seafood to Food Banks Across New York

December 14, 2022 - This holiday season, Community Offshore Wind donated over 30,000 meals of wild-caught, locally sourced seafood from fishermen and seafood processors to food pantries in Albany, Brooklyn, Buffalo, Hudson Valley, Long Island, Staten Island, and Syracuse. In total, Community Offshore Wind distributed more than 2,500 pounds of freshly frozen, Long Island-sourced fish and 10,500 cans of New Jersey-sourced clam chowder. We want to provide all families with access to fresh, healthy, sustainable seafood, which is central to holiday meals for many cultures. Supporting fisheries from New York and New Jersey benefits local economies by creating and maintaining jobs for fishermen, processors and wholesalers.

Community Offshore Wind Donates 900 Winter Coats to Families Across New York State on Giving Tuesday

November 29, 2022 - On GivingTuesday, Community Offshore Wind spent the day warming hearts and homes today across New York State! We donated 900 winter coats and 100 pairs of winter gloves to families in need with the help of seven New York non-profit organizations including Seamen's Society for Children and Families on Staten Island, Red Hook Initiative in Brooklyn (Pictured), Long Beach MLK Community Center, Spin the Yard Foundation in Wyandanch, the Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh, Northern Rivers Family of Services in Albany, and the Resource Council of Western New York in Buffalo. Thank you to our partner, Buy Supply, a woman-owned, small business based in Brooklyn, who helped source the items that have been donated.

November 9, 2022 - Our Community Offshore Wind “Community Van” is hitting the streets and neighborhoods near you! Our all-electric Ford 2023 E-Transit Van has a projected range of more than 100 miles on a single charge, equivalent to 68kWh or savings of about 3 gallons of gas at the pump. That’s ZERO tailpipe emissions! The future is electric, and when you see our van, know that Community Offshore Wind is working to bring Local Clean Energy for All.

Community Offshore Wind Donates 100 Fall and Halloween Care Packages to Children at Hasbro Children’s Hospital

October 19, 2022 - At Community Offshore Wind, putting communities first is our priority. That’s why while we were in Providence, RI for American Clean Power Association (ACP)’s Offshore WINDPOWER Conference, our team donated 100 Fall and Halloween care packages with fun educational information about renewable energy and art supplies to the Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The donation is our way to give back and brighten a child’s day!

Community Offshore Wind Announces Partnership with Hudson River Community Sailing

October 11, 2022 - We’re excited to announce our partnership with Hudson River Community Sailing (HRCS)! Starting in October through June 2023, we will be offering lessons in wind through sailing to over 200 New York City public school students from underserved communities. The partnership draws students from across the five boroughs to learn about wind energy and navigation at Pier 66 in Chelsea, and Dyckman Marina in Inwood, New York. The program is designed to build leadership and maritime skills for a more inclusive, equitable workforce of tomorrow in offshore wind.

Community Offshore Wind Donates Back-to-School Supplies to Children at the Martin Luther King Center - Long Beach, Long Island

August 25, 2022 - The Community Offshore Wind team made a donation of back-to-school supplies for children at the Long Beach Martin Luther King Center. It’s our mission to get the next generation ready for a future in offshore wind and provide local clean energy to all.

Community Offshore Wind Project Director visits William Floyd High School

August 2, 2022 - Douglas Perkins, our Community Offshore Wind President and Project Director, spent the day at William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, NY, where he spoke with students about pathways to technical and non-technical careers in wind energy. The program of SUNY Farmingdale and the Workforce Development Institute provided an ideal opportunity for students to learn about Doug’s journey to wind and how developing core skills early can transfer to careers in wind energy.

Community Offshore Wind Offers Swim Lessons to Underserved Communities

July 25, 2022 - Community Offshore Wind was proud to announce a partnership with the YMCA of Long Island and the YMCA of Greater New York to make swimming lessons accessible to over 100 children from underserved communities throughout downstate New York. Teaching children to swim helps remove blockers for future careers in offshore wind. The partnership launch coincided with the UN’s World Drowning Prevention Day.

Huntington Rotary’s Oyster Reef Project

July 1, 2022 - The Community Offshore Wind team launched a volunteer outreach program with the Huntington Rotary’s Oyster Reef Project in partnership with the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County. Team members trained as dock leaders and are assisting a group of aquaculture pioneers to raise oysters from infancy to adolescence. This helps to filter the local waterways and improve the local marine ecosystem.

Community Offshore Wind at Spring Creek Park, NY

June 10th, 2022 - At our first ever team building offsite, the Community Offshore Wind team spent a day at Spring Creek Park picking up over 900lbs of trash/debris and helped revitalize Howard Beach for all to enjoy!

Island Harvest Food Bank

May 4, 2022 - Community Offshore Wind volunteered at Island Harvest Food Bank in Melville, Long Island, NY. This was an opportunity for our team to help give back to the local community. Island Harvest is one Long Island’s leading hunger-relief organizations whose mission is to end hunger and reduce food waste. 

Atlantic City Rescue Mission Donation

April 27, 2022 - Community Offshore Wind donated over 100 care packages and cases of water for the Atlantic City Rescue Mission in New Jersey. Each care package was arranged by a member of the Community Offshore Wind team which included various toiletries and a special message inside. The Atlantic City Rescue Mission is a nonprofit social service ministry helping the unhoused population and people in need in southern New Jersey. This community outreach effort was led by Natalie Terhaar, COSW Lead Representative of Community Engagement.

Earth Week Beach Clean Up

April 21, 2022 - In honor of Earth Week, some of our teammates and their families joined National Grid’s Long Island Generation Team for a beach clean-up at Lido Beach in NY. The event was hosted by local organizations, The Long Island Aquarium and NY Marine Rescue Center. In total, the group collected 26 pounds of garbage. Regular beach clean-ups help remove plastic debris from the marine ecosystem and protect local wildlife.

Clean Energy & Sustainability Solutions Forum

April 20, 2022 - Community Offshore Wind sponsored FuzeHub’s Clean Energy & Sustainability Solutions Forum, an event for New York State manufacturers to learn about emerging offshore wind supply chain opportunities, gain access to resources for energy efficiency programs, and hear from clean energy leaders, like Dr. Jian Sun of the Center for Future Energy Systems and Georges Sassine of NYSERDA on various initiatives in New York State.

NYSERDA Offshore Wind Open House

April 6, 2022 - Community Offshore team members, Douglas Perkins of RWE and Alanna Russo of National Grid attended NYSERDA’s Offshore Wind Open House held at Stony Brook University in partnership with The Long Island Association to discuss what’s next for #offshorewind in New York. The topics covered in the roundtable conversation included DEI, workforce development, manufacturing and economic growth.
