On Giving Tuesday, Community Offshore Wind Donates 300 Winter Coats to Brooklyn Families
BROOKLYN, NY, December 3, 2024
On Giving Tuesday, an international day of generosity and giving, Community Offshore Wind donated 300 winter coats to families in need in Brooklyn. The offshore wind developer partnered with The Brooklyn New School, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and the Red Hook Initiative to provide brand new coats to Brooklynites in Carroll Gardens and Red Hook. Community Offshore Wind also donated 200 coats to organizations on Long Island and 500 coats to organizations in New Jersey.
“At a time when many families are struggling to keep up with the cost of living, a new coat can be a major expense. Community Offshore Wind is proud to work with our community partners to help Brooklynites bridge the gap this winter season while supporting a woman-owned business based in the Northeast,” said Doug Perkins, President & Project Director of Community Offshore Wind. “We see ourselves as a part of the communities we work in, and we are committed to helping meet the needs of our neighbors. We look forward to working with our partners in Brooklyn and in communities around the state to deliver new benefits, including hundreds of good jobs, to New York.”
“Every New Yorker knows a good winter coat is essential, especially as we head into the colder months, but the cost of warm clothes can be a significant financial burden,” said Fr. William L. Ogburn of Saint Paul’s Carroll Street Episcopal Church. “Nearly twenty percent of Brooklynites live below the federal poverty line, and winter is an expensive season to prepare for. Community Offshore Wind’s donation shows their deep commitment to the Brooklyn community and its residents.”
This fall, Community Offshore Wind submitted a proposal to deliver up to 2.8 GW of offshore wind energy to New York in response to the state’s fifth offshore wind solicitation. The proposed project would directly create hundreds of high-paying, local jobs, benefit New York businesses and accelerate progress towards the state’s clean energy goals.
Since its launch in 2022, Community Offshore Wind has been an active and engaged neighbor to New York communities, including donating tens of thousands of meals of locally-sourced seafood to hunger relief organizations, providing school supply kits for 500 New York students, donating more than 3,000 STEM-focused books to families in Brooklyn, and funding field trips for more than 140 New York students to local museums.
