  • In partnership with Buy Supply, a woman-owned, small business based in Brooklyn, and non-profits across New York, Community Offshore Wind is warming hearts and homes on GivingTuesday with donations of winter apparel.

NEW YORK, NY, Nov. 29, 2022

On GivingTuesday, Community Offshore Wind will donate 900 winter coats and 100 pairs of winter gloves to families in need throughout New York State. The joint venture between RWE Renewables and National Grid will partner with Buy Supply, a woman-owned, small business based in Brooklyn, to source the items. Essential to the state-wide distribution, are seven non-profit organizations across New York including Seamen’s Society for Children and Families on Staten Island, Red Hook Initiative in Brooklyn, Long Beach MLK Community Center, Spin the Yard Foundation in Wyndanch, the Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh, Northern Rivers Family of Services in Albany, and the Resource Council of Western New York in Buffalo.

Community Offshore Wind is developing an offshore wind project in the New York Bight between Long Island and New Jersey. When complete, the project has a potential capacity of 3 gigawatts (GW), enough to power more than one million homes. The joint venture is named after its dedication to uplift communities and deliver local, clean energy for all.

“At every opportunity, we like to ask ourselves how Community Offshore Wind can give back throughout the Northeast,” said Doug Perkins, President and Project Director of Community Offshore Wind. “GivingTuesday is a natural opportunity to support our communities. Together with our partners, Buy Supply, and seven non-profit organizations, we’re working  to make sure New Yorkers across the state have what they need to keep their families warm this winter. We take our role as a community steward seriously and look to create local connections that support dignity, respect, and equity for all people.”

GivingTuesday is a global movement to encourage radical generosity around the world. Taking place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, the movement was launched in 2012 to promote acts of kindness and raise awareness of helping those in need.

“Our team strongly believes in supporting our community by giving back and supporting worthy organizations that make such a big difference in the lives of so many people,” said Tanya Fairman, Marketing Director of Buy Supply. “We are thrilled to be able to partner with Community Offshore Wind on this project.  The winter season across New York can be hard for many people in our community, especially children, and during this time of gratitude and reflection, we are happy to be able to do our small part to make a difference.”
