Statement on New York’s fourth offshore wind solicitation:
We are steadfast in our conviction that offshore wind is critical to address climate change and help meet the growing demand for clean, reliable energy. Our commitment to both New York and the U.S. offshore wind industry is unchanged, and we stand ready to support NYSERDA if called upon.
Delivering for New York
On January 25, 2024, Community Offshore Wind submitted a proposal to develop an additional 1.3GW of offshore wind capacity for New York’s fourth offshore wind solicitation. The project will deliver more than $1 billion in economic benefits over its lifetime, and reduce power sector carbon emissions by 5 percent – equivalent to removing 11 million cars from the road.
Building on our goal of putting New York workers, families and communities first
This proposal would be Community Offshore Wind’s second project in our 3.2 GW seabed lease in the New York Bight. This proposal will continue to deliver robust economic development and long-term jobs for New Yorkers, breaking down barriers of entry.
Our investments include:
Nearly $50 million in funding for workforce and community initiatives, with a focus on creating opportunities for diverse New Yorkers and supporting local non-profit organizations. The funding includes up to:
- $15 million for supportive services for workers, including transportation and childcare to ensure all workers are able to pursue offshore wind careers;
- $20 million for the Powering Up Fund, to address gaps in workforce training and preparation, including programming identified by labor unions and workforce development organizations;
- And $4 million each for education and youth employment programming to prepare today’s students for the clean energy jobs of tomorrow;
- The proposal also includes an investment of up to $10 million in the offshore wind supply chain, to help New York businesses prepare for the economic opportunities the growing industry will create.
